Case No. 2016: HAFIZUR RAHMAN USMAN GHANI was diagnosed with Occipital Encephalocele — a brain tumour growing from the back of his head — immediately after birth at Penang Hospital.
Due to poverty, his father, USMAN GHANI ABDUL RAHMAN (23 years old), had no choice but to bring his newborn baby home, hoping for a miracle that the tumour would disappear on its own. But the illness did not spare this poor child. Today, the tumour has grown to the size of his head and is even oozing pus.
The baby must be fed through an oral tube. Due to financial hardship, the parents are forced to reuse cleaned feeding tubes, exposing the baby to a high risk of serious infection — a desperate act born out of necessity.
In search of better opportunities, the family of three moved from Penang to Kuala Lumpur.

In February of this year, the baby began vomiting frequently during feedings. He was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with fluid accumulation in the brain tumour, and some brain tissue has already been affected. Doctors warned that immediate surgery is necessary to save his life.
HAFIZUR is just a newborn. It is heartbreaking to see such a young baby forced to battle a life-threatening illness before he even has the chance to properly see the world.
[Mother Cries Through the Night — Father Resigns to Provide Care]
“He cries constantly, vomits after feeding, and can’t sleep at night…” said the mother, MUKARAMA ABUL HASIM (19 years old), who is overwhelmed with pain and often weeps silently at night. A homemaker by role, she is now fully devoted to her ailing child. The father, previously a cleaner, resigned from his job to stay home and care for their son whose condition is deteriorating. The family now relies solely on their remaining savings to survive.
Today, USMAN GHANI’s savings have been exhausted. They are struggling to meet even their daily needs, let alone pay for the costly surgery and medical care. Helpless and desperate, they came to us, seeking assistance.
