A Call for Donations of RM10,368 to Support 4-Year-Old Voon Yu Cheng !
Your generosity can bring joy to a little boy’s childhood! We urgently seek your kind donations to help 4-year-old Voon Yu Cheng purchase a specialized wheelchair, hearing aids, and diapers.
Case No. 1987: Voon Yu Cheng is an unfortunate child diagnosed with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that has caused multiple developmental impairments.
At 4 years old, he is unable to speak or express himself. Since birth, he has been dependent on a feeding tube for nourishment. Now, he requires a customized wheelchair and hearing aids to support his daily life. His genetic condition has robbed him of the joy of childhood.
During a home visit, social workers learned that Yu Cheng’s condition was evident even before birth. Doctors detected slow foetal growth, and when he was born, he weighed only 1.5 kg. Further genetic testing confirmed that he had a congenital disorder. He was also born with a hole in his heart, but fortunately, it healed on its own as he grew.
According to his father, Voon Kok Soon (48 years old), Yu Cheng had to be fed through a nasal tube since infancy. Recently, he underwent surgery to place a feeding tube in his abdomen for easier feeding. To prevent infections, he must be kept in a strictly hygienic environment, as even a minor fever could cause breathing difficulties, sleeplessness, and the inability to drink milk.
Yu Cheng also experiences involuntary body movements and makes incoherent sounds. As he grows, a regular baby chair is no longer sufficient to support his body. Doctors have strongly recommended a customized wheelchair to prevent spinal deformities.
His mother, Gan Chiew Teng (39 years old), shared that his ears are underdeveloped and positioned lower than normal. His hearing ability is severely affected, with profound hearing loss in his right ear and moderate hearing loss in his left ear. Doctors have recommended hearing aids to help him improve his auditory perception and overall quality of life.
The family has two children, including a 1-year-old daughter. Their only source of income comes from Voon Kok Soon’s job as a store assistant at a traditional medicine shop, while his wife stays home to care for their children.
