Description

A bone cancer patient urgently needs assistance! The breadwinner is struggling with severe bone cancer, making it extremely difficult for him to walk. His family has lost their support, and we earnestly appeal to kind-hearted individuals across the nation to donate RM7,500 to help him purchase an oxygen concentrator and an electric medical bed, allowing him to recuperate at home.

Case No. 1897: Mr. Cheong Swee Hwa, 58 years old, discovered a lump in his neck in 2022 and underwent surgery to remove it. He was later diagnosed with a very rare form of bone cancer called metastatic sub-mandibular adenoid-cystic carcinoma, which has caused significant spinal, skeletal, and left thoracic fluid accumulation.

Since his diagnosis, Mr. Cheong has undergone surgery, radiation therapy, and systemic treatment and was discharged from the hospital. However, on August 19 of this year, he was readmitted due to sudden numbness in his legs. After undergoing an MRI, it was discovered that his spinal bones had been affected by the cancer, leading to problems with the nerves in his legs and spine, severely impacting his mobility.

The doctor informed him that to recover, he would need spinal surgery and metal implants to straighten his spine. Mr. Cheong has already purchased a spinal brace for support. The illness has weakened him significantly, and he also needs to have fluid drained from his lungs. His condition has deteriorated, further affecting his mobility and health.

The doctor recommended that upon discharge, Mr. Cheong would need an oxygen concentrator (for thoracic fluid) and an electric medical bed to help him adjust his position comfortably and to make it easier for his wife to care for him.

Mr. Cheong was previously a paint salesman but has stopped working due to his illness. He has two children who are still in high school, and his wife, Gan Kay Yean, is a housewife.

[A Loving Couple, Both in Tears] When the social worker spoke with Mr. Cheong to learn more about his situation, they found that despite his illness, he remains very optimistic. He told the social worker that he didn’t want his wife and family to worry about the medical expenses. As the head of the family, he tried to remain strong, but when talking about his situation, he couldn’t help but shed tears. He feels deeply for his wife, who is always by his side, carefully helping him in and out of bed, even though it causes him excruciating pain in his spine. He is incredibly grateful for her care and patience. During the conversation, Mrs. Gan Kay Yean also couldn’t hold back her tears, feeling heartbroken for her husband.

Although Mr. Cheong currently has medical insurance to cover his treatment costs, the necessary medical equipment must be purchased out of pocket. Unfortunately, he has lost his job and has no source of income, with his savings nearly depleted. In his desperation, Mr. Cheong sought Da Ai for assistance, and we are raising RM7,500 to cover the costs of the necessary medical equipment. The breakdown is as follows:

Oxygen Concentrator (Philips Everflo): RM4,000
Electric Bed with PVC Mattress: RM3,500
Total: RM7,500

We earnestly appeal to kind-hearted individuals across the nation to help Mr. Cheong get through this difficult time. We also hope that everyone will help share this message so that he can receive the assistance as soon as possible, allowing Mrs. Gan to care for her husband with peace of mind. Thank you.
