Description
Urgent heart surgery is needed without delay! 10-year-old Wong Yi Xuan urgently needs heart surgery to close a hole in her heart. We are pleading for generous donations from the public to raise the RM70,000 needed for the surgery to save this precious life, who depends solely on her single mother.
Case No. 1872: Wong Yi Xuan, from a single-parent family, was diagnosed with multiple heart conditions at birth, including Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). While other heart issues have resolved with age, VSD (commonly known as a hole in the heart) has not improved.
Her mother, Mun Choy Fong (46 years old), has never given up hope. She has persistently sought medical treatment for her daughter, travelling from their hometown of Johor Bahru to various hospitals, including more than 10 hospitals in Kuala Lumpur. She believed that with careful care, Yi Xuan’s VSD could heal on its own, just like her other heart conditions, to spare her daughter the pain and risks of surgery. As her only child, she treasures Yi Xuan deeply.
After years of relentless efforts, Yi Xuan is now 10 years old and in the fourth grade. Despite her mother’s hardships, the congenital VSD has not healed. Doctors have warned that Yi Xuan must undergo surgery soon to close the hole in her heart, or her condition will worsen, threatening her life.
Yi Xuan only learned about her heart condition at age 5. Due to her heart defect, her teachers prohibited her from participating in physical activities with other children. Watching her peers play while she couldn’t join made her very sad. She hopes to one day play normally with them.
Yi Xuan’s parents divorced when she was two, and since then, she and her mother have relied on each other. Mun Choy Fong has borne her daughter’s pain alone, constantly seeking the best doctors and dedicating herself to Yi Xuan’s care. Despite the relentless efforts and countless sacrifices, seeing no improvement in her daughter’s condition often leaves her feeling helpless and heartbroken.
Mom don’t cry! Mother and daughter hug and cry.
In a tearful recount to Da Ai social workers, Ms. Mun shared her daughter’s misfortune, hugging Yi Xuan as both cried.
At 10 years old, Yi Xuan knows how to comfort her mother, telling her not to cry. She understands her mother’s worries but feels powerless to help. Her little face shows gratitude towards her mother, and though she can only offer hugs to console her crying mother now, she hopes to repay her mother’s nurturing love when she grows up. Even at such a young age, Yi Xuan understands the greatness of a mother’s love; she loves her mother deeply, and her mother loves her even more.
When asked about her wish, Yi Xuan immediately said, “I want my mom to always be with me!” Ms. Mun only wishes for her daughter’s health, feeling it is her responsibility to cure her. She hopes for Yi Xuan to grow up healthy, safe, and happy. However, the daunting surgery cost leaves the single mother anxious because she is unable to afford the costs. The burden of her daughter’s safety and the pressure of raising RM70,000 for the surgery weigh heavily on her. She is mentally exhausted, constantly anxious, and unable to sleep at night.
Mom has no job or home, and their situation is dire.
Having quit her job, Ms. Mun lives on the child support provided by her ex-husband, who is a ride-hailing driver with irregular income. This financial instability, combined with the high medical costs, forces the mother and daughter to live in a friend’s house with no means to afford the surgery.
The enormous pressure overwhelms Ms. Mun, but her determination to see her daughter healthy keeps her going. After persistent efforts, she found a ray of hope through our organisation, Da Ai, to help raise the RM70,000 needed for Yi Xuan’s surgery.
On behalf of Ms. Mun, we are fundraising for Wong Yi Xuan. We earnestly ask for generous donations to quickly raise the surgery funds, allowing Yi Xuan to undergo surgery soon, escape danger, and grow up healthy. We also hope kind-hearted individuals will share this plea to expedite the fundraising and save this lovely child’s life. Thank you!
