Description
Urgent Appeal for Baby Girl’s Life! Nine-month-old Phoon Yan Toong urgently needs RM100,000 for heart and lung surgery to save her life. We earnestly request kind-hearted people nationwide to urgently donate.
Toong Toong must take heart medication, thyroid medication, diuretics, stomach medicine, and kidney protection medicine with every meal. She is also on a ventilator and is fighting for her life in the paediatric intensive care unit. We hope compassionate individuals can urgently help her escape this perilous situation. According to doctors, if she does not undergo surgery soon, her life expectancy is only 2 to 3 months. However, her mother is determined not to give up on her.
Crowdfunding Case No. 1868: Phoon Yan Toong (Toong Toong) was hospitalized at just two months old due to complex and severe medical conditions. Since her birth, her parents have spent every holiday in the hospital with her. Their only wish is for their daughter to leave the hospital soon and celebrate her first birthday at home, growing up healthy and safe.
Toong Toong was hospitalized shortly after birth due to an atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD) and was preparing for surgery. Being a child with Down syndrome, she has higher-than-normal pulmonary pressure, increasing the surgical risk. Compounded by a bacterial infection, her first surgery, ideally performed at three months old, was delayed until she was five months old.
Despite undergoing one surgery, her AVSD and pulmonary hypertension issues persist, necessitating a second AVSD repair and pulmonary artery debanding surgery. While awaiting surgery, Toong Toong struggles to breathe due to AVSD and relies on a ventilator. The mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood due to her AVSD prevents her from breathing normally.
Due to scheduling delays at government hospitals, Toong Toong cannot miss the optimal surgical window. Consequently, her parents opted for a private hospital. Her mother, Han Pui Leng, resigned from her job to care for Toong Toong full-time, while her father, Phoon Kok Hou, a vegetable farmer, cannot afford the high surgical costs. In their desperation, they sought help from Da Ai.
Toong Toong is their first child, and despite being a child with Down syndrome, she has not yet received her OKU card for disability benefits.
When mother Han Pui Leng initially explained her daughter’s condition to the Da Ai social worker, she couldn’t hold back her tears. She choked up while describing Toong Toong’s daily struggle in the hospital. Toong Toong must take a large amount of medication every day and requires a ventilator to breathe. Each morning, the ventilator tube can only be removed for 20 minutes before it must be reattached. Watching her daughter fight so hard to survive, enduring more than a baby should, tears at her mother’s heart.
At the request of Toong Toong’s parents, Da Ai is launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise the RM100,000 needed for her surgery. We hope the public can quickly assist in raising the necessary funds. We also urge kind-hearted individuals to share this plea for help so that Toong Toong can undergo surgery soon, leave the hospital, and reunite with her parents at home.
