Urgent appeal for assistance! A 3-year-old boy mistakenly ingested a corrosive chemical liquid, thinking it was juice, and narrowly escaped death! We earnestly implore kind-hearted individuals to donate RM10,000 to help him receive further treatment, ensuring his swift recovery and healthy growth.
Case No. 1816: The boy, John Cung Chin Thang, ingested an alkaline chemical liquid by accident, resulting in severe corrosion of his mouth, esophagus, and gastrointestinal tract. He underwent up to eight surgeries, barely surviving the ordeal. However, post-operative wound healing may cause tightening of muscle tissues, leading to narrowing of the esophagus and digestive tract. Every two weeks, the hospital performs esophagogastroduodenoscopy examinations and administers specific medications using surgical dilators for John. His father, a casual laborer, lacks the means to afford the subsequent treatment expenses; hence, he earnestly requests the help of the public.
John still requires multiple follow-up treatments, but the costs of the eight surgeries have left his father heavily indebted. Unable to borrow further for his son’s subsequent treatments, he has no choice but to seek help from Da Ai, hoping to crowdfund the necessary expenses.
His father, Lian Za Thang (30 years old), and mother, Vel Tha Chin Sung (26 years old), are a young foreign couple who fled to Malaysia seeking asylum in 2023 due to civil unrest in their home country. Along with their son John, they fled to Malaysia, accompanied by their mother-in-law.
John is their only child; he is lively in personality, has big round eyes, and is exceptionally lively and adorable. Upon arriving in Malaysia, the couple rented a place together with friends. Lian Za Thang finds it difficult to secure long-term employment due to his refugee status. Despite his willingness to work hard, taking on three casual jobs, the pay is meagre and inconsistent, barely enough to make ends meet. Vel Tha Chin Sung also works as a dishwasher in a restaurant downstairs from their rented apartment to supplement the family’s income. However, due to the insufficient and unstable income, life for the family of four is extremely challenging.
During our visit to their home, Lian Za Thang recounted the terrifying incident, explaining that when it occurred, his son was playing in the yard and found an abandoned air conditioner refrigerant in the corner, mistaking it for juice. Immediately experiencing severe abdominal pain and swollen lips, the child was rushed to the hospital just in time for emergency treatment.
Doctors advise that John needs to return to the hospital at least six more times for further treatment, with the following costs:
1) Subsequent treatment + surgical dilators + hospitalization fees = RM1500 X 6 times = RM9000
2) Medication costs = RM1000
Total: RM10,000
At the behest of John’s parents, we have initiated a crowdfunding campaign, earnestly requesting the assistance of kind-hearted individuals nationwide to ensure the young boy smoothly undergoes subsequent treatment, safely overcoming this ordeal and growing up quickly. We also appeal for help in spreading this message to allow more compassionate people to lend a helping hand. Thank you.
