Description

Chan Chu Ting, a 16-year-old student, is facing a crisis of hearing loss in both ears. Urgently seeking assistance from compassionate individuals, she requests donations totaling RM6,800 to purchase a pair of hearing aids. This financial support will enable her to return to school promptly and lead a normal life.

Case No. 1788: Chan Chu Ting is compelled to temporarily pause her education to work in a restaurant due to the necessity of saving money for hearing aids. Her single mother, burdened with the responsibility of six children, is unable to afford the expenses. Therefore, she earnestly requests help from kind-hearted public.

Chan Chu Ting has temporarily suspended her education due to the severe impact of not having hearing aids on her ability to attend classes and learn. Despite being a resilient girl, she is willing to work and save money to purchase hearing aids because she understands her mother’s financial constraints. She states, “My mom has to support six children alone, and I don’t want to add to her burden.”

Working to save money for hearing aids herself may prolong the process, and her job in a noisy restaurant, coupled with the loss of hearing in her left ear, causes intense discomfort. She relies solely on her right ear, which is experiencing increasing pressure. When sharing her predicament with charity workers, she couldn’t hold back tears.

Medical examinations have confirmed Chu Ting’s left ear is completely deaf, and the hearing in her right ear is 30% weaker than that of an average person. Doctors have advised her mother, Ivy Loh, to purchase a pair of hearing aids to prevent further deterioration of the right ear’s hearing. However, this expense exacerbates the financial challenges faced by the struggling mother.

In her desperate situation, Chu Ting heard about the crowdfunding platform of Da Ai. Filled with hope, she bravely visited the service center alone to share her story and seek assistance in obtaining hearing aids.

Coming from a single-parent household with six siblings, Chu Ting is the fourth child. Due to family issues, mother, Ivy Loh made the resolute decision to divorce shortly after the birth of her youngest daughter, choosing to raise all six children alone.

Despite temporarily residing with her parents after the divorce, Ivy’s elderly parents are incapable of caring for the children. To ensure their well-being, Ivy takes on multiple jobs, but her meagre income is insufficient, leading her to borrow money almost every month to make ends meet.

Chu Ting’s siblings contribute to the family’s expenses by working part-time during school holidays, demonstrating their filial piety and understanding of their mother’s hardships.

In the past few years, Chu Ting’s left ear has been prone to inexplicable discharge and inflammation. The doctor prescribed only antibiotics and ear drops for her. Last year, as her condition worsened, a subsequent examination confirmed the deafness in her left ear.

Concerned about Chu Ting facing the imminent risk of complete deafness, which not only affects her academic performance but also her future, we, on behalf of Ivy Loh, have initiated a crowdfunding campaign. We appeal to compassionate individuals to assist in purchasing a pair of hearing aids, with a detailed breakdown of expenses as follows:

1) VISTA B3 RT (receiver): RM3,400

2) VISTA B3 RT (transmitter): RM3,400

Total: RM6,800

We also implore everyone to share this plea for help, aiding Chu Ting in fulfilling her wish to wear hearing aids, resume her education, and lead a normal life. Thank you.
