Description

Case No. 1763: Urgent appeal for donations to cover funeral expenses for the destitute and vulnerable elderly woman to ensure her peaceful final journey in life.

83-year-old Tan Eng Chaew has been living on the streets in the vicinity of Kepong, Kuala Lumpur. After a long struggle, she was finally arranged to stay in a non-profit nursing home about six months ago. Unfortunately, news of her passing due to old age and frailty was reported on November 2nd. With no relatives to turn to, we earnestly implore kind-hearted individuals nationwide to donate to her funeral, allowing Ms. Tan to rest in peace soon.

Tan Eng Chaew’s stay in the nursing home holds a poignant tale. If it hadn’t been for her falling on the road and fracturing both her legs, a kind-hearted passerby taking her to the hospital for two weeks of treatment, her injuries healing, and the welfare department personnel from the hospital eventually arranging for her to be placed in a non-profit nursing home, her life could have continued in desolate conditions.

The person in charge of the nursing home expressed the grandmother’s gratitude for being arranged to stay there. She was thankful for not having to endure life on the streets. The person in charge earnestly hoped that the grandmother could live out her final years in peace, but sadly, the unexpected and sorrowful news of her passing, after only a little over a hundred days of residing in the home, was received.

Despite her lack of major health issues except for mobility difficulties, she was found lifeless on the morning of November 2nd by the staff. Authorities were promptly informed. The death report revealed that Tan Eng Chaew passed away due to geriatric disease at the nursing home around 9 a.m. that day. As she had no family, the responsible party at the non-profit nursing home sought assistance from Da Ai to arrange for her funeral.

We are handling the whole funeral process for Ms. Tan Eng Chaew, which includes body transfer, cremation, prayer ceremony, and scattering the ashes into the sea. If anyone is interested in donating for the whole funeral, kindly contact any social workers at Da Ai for more information. Thank you.

Ms. Tan Eng Chaew’s prayer ceremony will be held at Kwong Tong Funeral Parlour (Hall J) in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, November 3, 2023, followed by cremation on Saturday, November 4, 2023. The ashes will be scattered into the sea, allowing Ms. Tan to rest in the embrace of nature.
