Urgent Appeal: Please Share to Help Save Baby Elsern’s Life!
Case No. 1756 (Part 1): Baby Elsern Yeap Ven Han is only 3 months old and is currently in the intensive care unit, relying on multiple machines for life support. He has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and urgently needs RM500,000 for life-saving medical treatment. We earnestly appeal to kind-hearted people to come forward and help. We are immensely grateful for your support.
Baby Elsern is struggling to breathe and unable to urinate. Ultrasound scans have revealed three tumors in his liver, spleen, and testicle, requiring chemotherapy. He has numerous tubes attached to his tiny body, including one in his throat, and is in immense pain, unable to cry out. His parents are heartbroken.
Baby Elsern Yeap Ven Han’s diagnosis of AML, accompanied by multiple red rashes on his skin, has placed a substantial financial burden on his family. His father, an ordinary administrative worker, and his mother, who has been taking care of the baby since pregnancy with no job or income, cannot afford the exorbitant medical expenses.
Baby Elsern has been in the neonatal intensive care unit, and his father, Yeap Wei Keat (37 years old), and mother, Hiew Yoke Kwan (39 years old), take turns caring for him around the clock. They are deeply worried, stressed, and in sorrow.
[His father choked with tears, unable to accept his son’s condition]—During our social worker’s home visit to understand the baby’s condition, his father, Yeap Wei Keat, was overcome with grief and could not control his emotions, choking back tears. His wife handed him tissues. As a man, he was deeply saddened. He couldn’t accept the current situation and wondered why his son had to suffer like this. He confessed that he had cried countless times and would willingly trade places with his son to spare him from suffering.
Yeap Wei Keat and his wife have been married for four years, and after planning for two to three years, they finally welcomed their baby in June. The baby was born healthy, and they were overjoyed to have a precious child.
Their baby is cute and smart, and they often play with him. Even the baby’s grandmother is thrilled. However, their joy was short-lived as the baby started running a fever and experiencing abdominal swelling about two to three weeks ago. His right testicle became significantly enlarged, which was very concerning. As the fever continued without abating, the parents had no choice but to take him to see a doctor.
Despite the long and challenging journey to get a diagnosis, the confirmation of AML leukemia and immediate admission to the ICU was a shocking turn of events.
Their baby is ill, and his condition is severe. He struggles to drink milk, and while Wei Keat initially found sweetness in feeding him, it has become an excruciating process. Wei Keat and his wife are emotionally drained, and they only wish for their baby to recover quickly.
[The Baby Needs Chemotherapy and Life Support]—The baby is already receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit and has undergone a week of chemotherapy. He is experiencing difficulty breathing, is unable to urinate, and requires regular bone marrow dialysis to remove toxins. Various medical devices are also needed to provide life support. The baby has multiple tubes attached, and even when he cries, he cannot make a sound. The parents’ tears have already run dry, with their sole hope being that the baby will recover soon.
Mom Hiew Yoke Kwan shared with our social worker that her pregnancy was normal with no complications.
Both parents eagerly anticipate their baby getting better and growing up to call them “mom” and “dad.”
Wei Keat quoted the doctor as saying that the baby needs four rounds of chemotherapy, but the actual duration depends on the baby’s response. The estimated medical expenses are a staggering RM500,000, a burden the couple cannot bear. They earnestly hope for the assistance of the public to help their baby recover.
On behalf of Wei Keat and his wife, we have initiated a crowdfunding campaign to help baby Elsern. We implore kind-hearted people across the nation to generously contribute and unite in helping baby Elsern overcome this illness. We also kindly request that you share this appeal message to reach more compassionate individuals who can join hands to save baby Elsern’s life. Thank you.
【Update- 3 October 2023】
The awful news that 3-month-old Baby Elsern Yeap Ven Han went suddenly on the third day of the crowdfunding campaign is disappointing and distressing. We all did our best to put a halt, and we appreciate the care and encouragement of our kindhearted individuals.
Leukemia forced him to rely on a variety of medical devices in the hospital’s intensive care unit to maintain his life. He battled the illness valiantly, and everyone were willing to assist him and hoping the baby quickly be released from the hospital so he could return home and grow up quickly and happily, but on Saturday, September 30, the baby passed away, leaving his parents in a great deal of sorrow.
After waiting for years for their baby to come, the parents were looking forward to watching their baby turn the corner and leave the hospital early to go home. However, it was not to be, and the day their baby said farewell was tragic. The infant is no longer in agony or suffering as a result of the illness, and we hope him to enter the heavenly paradise as quickly as possible.
We would like to thank the kindhearted people for their kind donations and send our best wishes to all of the well-wishers.
