Case No. 1743: Urgent Appeal! We earnestly implore everyone’s assistance in raising RM 4,500 for a dear little girl. This sum will be used to purchase an oxygen concentrator, allowing her to breathe smoothly and sustain her precious life.
YUGASHIVANI A/P PALANIVELU, merely 6 years old this year, clings to her single mother for support. Her father passed away in a tragic accident five years ago, leaving her mother, who lacks the means, unable to afford an oxygen concentrator. They sincerely request kind-hearted people for help.
YUGASHIVANI suffers from Down syndrome and congenital heart disease. Her journey began with immense obstacles, and after losing her father, she was raised solely by her mother.
However, YUGASHIVANI’s mother, KRISHNAMA A/P KRISHNAN, has her own heartrending tale. She married at 25, and after almost 17 years of marriage, she finally conceived YUGASHIVANI. Yet tragedy struck in 2018 when her husband passed away in a car accident, leaving behind a tender daughter and a helpless wife.
KRISHNAMA, now 48 years old, assumes the role of a homemaker. Devoting herself to caring for her ailing daughter around the clock, she is without employment and resides in a shared room with her two sisters. Upon receiving the news, we made a dedicated trip to DENGKIL, Selangor, to conduct a home visit and understand their circumstances.
YUGASHIVANI, a frail figure, awaited our social worker while seated on her bed. Despite the limitations of a child with Down syndrome, her face lit up with a joyful smile, and she blew kisses upon seeing the social worker. She’s incredibly endearing, and we all grew fond of her. Without the nasal cannula for oxygen, her severe condition remains hidden.
Shortly after birth, she was diagnosed with Down syndrome and complex congenital heart disease (ASD, VSD, and PDA). On April 13, 2017, she underwent heart surgery (PDA ligation) and requires regular follow-up treatments at the pediatric clinic.
Her condition deteriorated in April of this year, leading to respiratory distress and an ICU admission. Stricken by a severe bacterial infection, fluid accumulated around her heart and lungs. Chronic pulmonary issues cause persistently high lung pressure, necessitating life-sustaining measures like a ventilator and oxygen.
After a 3-month hospitalization, YUGASHIVANI’s condition improved, allowing her to return home. However, she still requires oxygen at home to ensure proper respiration. Without the oxygen machine, her lung pressure could surge, resulting in cyanosis and eventual heart failure.
Her two aunts, who don’t earn much, cannot assist in purchasing an oxygen concentrator for her. The one she currently uses is on loan from the hospital and must be returned.

Our social workers already assisted 6-year-old YUGASHIVANI A/P PALANIVELU in purchasing an oxygen concentrator and delivered it to her house directly.
