Case No. 1738: Urgent! Save the baby! 1-year-old girl Yuffie Tei needs immediate surgery for coarctation of the aorta. We humbly appeal for donations of RM40,000 to help her undergo emergency surgery and save this precious young life.
Mother Pang Pei Yin shared that her baby girl, Yuffie Tei, was admitted to the hospital at 10 months old due to dengue fever. During examinations, doctors detected a heart murmur, and further tests confirmed she has a coarctation of the aorta. The doctors emphasised the need for swift surgery as her life is at significant risk. However, due to the exorbitant surgery costs, she and her husband cannot bear the burden alone, hence seeking assistance from kind-hearted individuals nationwide.
Coarctation of the aorta is a congenital heart defect that leads to reduced blood flow, significantly affecting the baby’s health. At present, Yuffie’s blood has difficulty flowing to her lower body. The surgery is vital to remove the narrowed portion, restore normal blood flow through the aorta, and improve blood pressure and circulation. This surgery must be conducted without delay, as postponing it could lead to irreversible harm to the baby. Due to the extended waiting period at government hospitals, Yuffie must be transferred to a private hospital for swift surgical intervention.
Upon learning of their beloved baby’s serious condition, the couple was thrown into turmoil, heartache, and helplessness. The father continually asked why this was happening, while the mother’s mind became a blank canvas filled with anxiety. Both found it difficult to accept this sudden reality. In their family history, no one had ever suffered from a similar condition, leaving them feeling utterly lost. The entire family was plunged into a state of confusion and pain.
The mother shared with a social worker that having to subject a one-year-old like Yuffie to such a major surgery was heartbreaking and the most painful experience in her life. She wished she could bear all the pain on Yuffie’s behalf, but that was impossible. When she held Yuffie and saw her energetic nature, it warmed her heart, but the thought of Yuffie’s heart defect potentially worsening at any moment left her feeling utterly helpless. Initially, they thought their firstborn would bring greater happiness to the family, but fate dealt them this distressing dilemma, plunging their spirits to an all-time low.
The father, Tei Choon Sian, is a regular clerk in an accounting firm, and the mother, Pang Pei Yin, is a housewife responsible for taking care of Yuffie and their grandmother living with them. The family of four solely relies on the father’s meagre salary to cover expenses. Faced with the daunting RM40,000 surgery cost, they are at a loss. Left with no alternatives, they turn to Da Ai, hoping that the generous public can contribute towards this substantial surgery cost and provide hope for their baby’s survival.
As parents, their sole wish is to ensure that their baby, Yuffie Tei, receives the necessary surgery promptly to save her life and ensure her healthy growth.
