Da Ai’s Crowdfunding of RM150,000 for Chia Fatt’s Medical Treatment (Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, NPC) and Welfare Expenses “Ex-automotive paint technician is bedridden due to nasal cancer. He needs your help for his chemotherapy and radiation therapy fees”
52-year-old bachelor Chia Fatt was an automotive paint technician. Due to his nasal cancer, he quit his job and became a Taoist monk. Mr. Chia could not afford his medical fees at the beginning, but the worsening condition since April forced him to receive chemotherapies and radiation therapies to save his
life.
Chia Fatt did not have the money to seek medical attention at the hospital. His sister, Chia Jin Mei tearfully said that Chia Fatt is going through enormous pain with his nasal cancer reached its fourth stage. Ms. Chia encouraged her brother to remain strong as the doctor said that there is still hope.
Chia Fatt wanted to receive his treatments at the public hospital, but his worsening conditions and pains could not afford the lengthy waiting time. Hence, with encouragements from his sister and family members, he decided to admit to Negeri Sembilan’s Nilai Medical Centre and receive his
chemotherapy.
Chia Fatt suffered from nasal cancer and diabetes for many years. Before receiving his chemotherapies at Nilai Medical Centre due to worsening nasal cancer conditions, Chia Fatt was already forced to be bedridden at his house in Seremban and he could no longer take care of himself.
A divorcee, Chia Fatt has no children. Upon witnessing these hardships, his sister took the task to take care of him and fed him. Mr. Chia’s ex-wife is an Indonesian Chinese who has left him many years ago as he was poor.
Chia Fatt inherited his parents’ house in Negeri Sembilan. His brother Chia Cai, sister Chia Jin Mei and nephew Huang Yong Wei took turns to take care of him in the mornings while his younger brother Chia Fu Rong was responsible for the evenings. Although they do not live a wealthy life, the family bond between them remained strong.
The filial nephew personally changed Chia Fatt’s diapers and wiped his body. Chia Fatt requires to change his diapers at least 4 times a day. He uses one pack of bed pads and three packs of adult diapers a week. He also requires to use a respirator (RM500 for a month’s rental). Chia Fatt’s siblings continued to encourage him and take care of his daily needs. However, they all have their own families and burdens, hence there is no extra fund to bear Chia Fatt’s medical expenses.
Chia Jin Mei understood that cancer treatments require a large sum of money and her family does not have the financial ability to cover the expenses. Chia Fatt and his sister have entrusted Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da Ai Malaysia to crowdfund and to collect charity funds all across Malaysia on behalf of them for medical fees and welfare expenses. A total of RM150,000 is needed.
Chia Fatt received his first chemotherapy at Nilai Medical Centre earlier this month. After the treatment, his face and neck were swollen and could not speak clearly. Besides, his eating ability and mobility were affected, requiring him to use a respirator to breathe. Helpless Chia Fatt can only wait for the next treatments to save his life. Even if his chemotherapies work, he would have to go through another painful process of radiation therapies.
According to Nilai Medical Centre’s report, palliative chemotherapies are needed for Chia Fatt at 3 weekly intervals for about 3-6 weeks, followed by radiation therapy daily for 7 weeks with 1 concentrated chemotherapy weekly.
Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da Ai Malaysia calls upon enthusiastic philanthropists to lend a hand to Mr. Chia Fatt for his chemotherapies and radiation therapies. Your donation is highly appreciated as this will help him to overcome these hurdles.
